Chris Bernabeo is a photographer who finds his subject in the spaces between the moments that usually get photographed — the tail end of a road trip, a friend asleep against a plane window, a wedding long after the formalities have dissolved. Since 2019, that instinct has taken the form of an ongoing series of self-published zines: intimate, annual records of the same circle of people, moving through the world together.

Lylas started as a personal project with no real plan beyond photographing the people closest to him. It grew into an annual zine about love that doesn't fit the usual labels — friend, sister, chosen family. Each edition carries the same spirit: beach days, weddings, babies, late nights — the feeling of human connection.

NOT A LOT TO GO ON

began as a way of keeping track of a year that never stopped moving - a cabin on the coast of Maine, a rental out in Joshua Tree, wherever the road went next. No matter where Chris landed, the same familiar faces kept showing up. This project documents the feeling of being at home anywhere.

Fantasyland I & II started as two weeks in Los Angeles with friends, the kind of place that makes you forget you're only staying a little while. To Chris, LA never felt quite real - palm trees, peacocks on lawns, golden hour at Hollywood Forever, like a movie set someone forgot to strike. Part fever dream, part backyard.
